Ethereal is all about luminescent light. Photos should have a soft and dreamy quality. Foreground subject should be sharp, the background can be blurred/bokeh.
All those things we are normally told to get rid of (sunspots, blown out whites, etc,) are good in ethereal! Well, they do say that rules can be broken!
